Today, at the age of 69, Gennady Volnov passed away. He was one of the greatest basketball players of 20th century, the Olympic champion, world champion, six-time European Champion. PBC CSKA expresses deepest condolences to the family of Gennady Volnov.

Gennady Volnov was born on November 28, 1939 in Moscow and spent all his career as the small forward for CSKA. During his years in our club he has become the USSR champion ten times (1959-69), European Champions Cup winner three times (1963, 1969, 1971). Volnov holds a record of the number of appearances in the top tournaments for USSR teams - 12 (4 Olympics, 2 World Championships, 6 European Championships). And he has a list of impressive wins: Volnov became Olympic champion (1972), two times silver (1960, 1964) and bronze (1968) Olympic medalist, world champion (1967) and six times European champion (1959-1969). Merited Master of Sports of the USSR (1984). For outstanding achievements in the development of basketball he awarded by Soviet Order of the Badge of Honor, two Medals of Labour Valour and the Medal of Labour Achievements.
