Aleksander Gomelskiy on Songaila’s suspension
“I find he decision to fine and suspend Darius Songaila for one game a fair one,” said PBC CSKA president Aleksander Gomelskiy. “Yesterday the club management had a long discussion about the situation and the final decision was made late in the evening. For that reason I was only informed about it in the morning. PBC CSKA General Director Sergey Kushchenko spoke with the player several times yesterday. Darius admitted that he made a mistake.
Without a doubt his comments to the press reflected poorly on the club’s image. He never came to the club with any complaints about poor living conditions in Moscow, so his interview was a complete surprise to us. The team administration has done and is doing everything for the players, and they are offered excellent living and training conditions. Songaila is a young player and not particularly experienced in non-basketball areas, and for that reason the club management made the decision to not administer the harshest penalty and to give Darius a chance to rectify the situation.”
