Our team is hosting Uralmash at Megasport, and for the opponents the upcoming game will be their first serious test since the coaching change...
Changes after the victory
Rumors had been circulating about Rostislav Vergun's resignation for quite some time. So, perhaps it came as no surprise that the head coach parted ways with the team after the club's first-ever victory over UNICS last week. Following this, it was announced that Anton Yudin, who had just completed a half-season stint with Lokomotiv-Kuban, would continue to coach Uralmash.
Anton Nikolaevich faces a difficult task: his team currently sits eighth in the standings, while the team's management, especially, expects much more from them. Garrett Nevels remains Yekaterinburg's leading scorer, averaging 16.3 points on 45.1% three-point shooting, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.1 assists. He's followed by Tyrell Nelson (13.1 points, 5.6 rebounds), Timofey Gerasimov (10.6 points, 4.0 assists), and Octavius Ellis (10.1 points, 4.7 rebounds). Sniper Hayden Dalton (9.6 points, 4.4 rebounds) gave the Army Men a run for their money in the road game, scoring 18 points, but overall, he's not even hitting 30% of his three-pointers this season.
Everyone's in good shape
"We're facing a completely different team than we've played in the past," notes CSKA head coach Andreas Pistiolis. "Everyone knows that a coaching change adds motivation. So we'll be playing a motivated, high-quality team with an excellent coach. It'll be a tough game, and we'll need the fans' support."
The Red-Blues held two practices after their trip to Perm. On Monday, the team trained in Krylatskoye, and on Tuesday, they moved to the Megasport court. All 15 players on the roster participated.
