Whoever says anything, there is nothing cooler than Real – CSKA games in European basketball, where two most distinguished teams on the continent meet each other. The Army Men won at Megasport in dramatic fashion and now they are ready to face the Spaniards at Madrid...
Highest class

PRE-GAME BREAKDOWN

The meeting against the royal club at Megasport was probably one of the most memorable ones this season. Mike James carried the team in the clutch moments by making a three-pointer “and-one” in the last seconds.

There are 13 players on the Red-Blues away roster. Nikola Milutinov (shoulder injury), Darrun Hilliard (illness) and Andrey Lopatin (gaining the shape after the hand injury) stayed in Moscow, as well as the second team players Daniil Kochergin and Yuri Umrikhin who practice with the main team.

Real is currently placed in the lower part of the top-8, so they will work really hard to get the playoff spot. The team lost Facundo Campazzo to Denver in the beginning of the season and then Anthony Randolp got injured.

PRE-GAME QUOTES

Dimitris Itoudis, CSKA head coach:

We all know about the difficulties of playing in Madrid. But we are very dedicated and focused on playing a good game out there and compete on the highest level. I think we learnt a lot of lessons in our last games, so it's time to bounce back with a good performance.

Daniel Hackett, CSKA guard:

Every game is serious for us, like a final. We don't have many games left in the regular season, the playoff picture is pretty intence right now. We didn't have much time to prepare due to the schedule but we will go there and give our best shot, fight. Real is always dangerous, especially on their home court, they are talented team, they have just lost El Classico against Barcelona so I am sure they will be motivated and hungry for the win. But we have to look at us, to be focused and go there on a mission.

“RELATIVITY” CONNECTIONS

Real guard Nicolas Laprovittola was a teammate of Johannes Voigtmann at Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz in the second part of 2016-17 season.

Nikita Kurbanov of CSKA and Anthony Randolph of Real Madrid were teammates at Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar during the 2014-15 season.

Mike James and Madrid's Fabien Causeur were teammates at Baskonia for a season and a half, from 2014 to 2016. They helped the team reach the 2016 EuroLeague Final Four together.
