J R Holden: It’s not about money
Newly signed CSKA Moscow guard J R Holden told our club’s press office about his love to the team and the city, his belief in coach Evgeny Pashutin and workout schedule.

When you thought about new contract, it was more about money or staying in CSKA?
It was about the best situation for me to play basketball and play the game the best that I can. It was not about the most money or staying at CSKA. CSKA didn't offer me the biggest contract but it was the best situation for me to continue my career. The main reason to stay with CSKA is that it’s the best team for me and the way I play the game. I love the fans, the city and so much about Moscow that being able to end my career at CSKA is special.

Is it special to be the most experienced player on the team?
It’s not special being the most experienced player. I think any experience you get playing the game of basketball at a high level is important for your growth as a veteran player.

Seven years in CSKA and two more in the future – absolutely unprecedented stint for European basketball. Do you feel like this is your team, your city, your country?
I wouldn't say this is my team, my city or my country but I do feel like I am a big part of the basketball tradition being built at CSKA. I love Moscow and it’s like a second home for me. I really cherish being a part of such a great tradition that was built before me and I hope to continue building in the future.

What are your thoughts on roster and coaching changes in CSKA?
I don't know what kind of roster CSKA will have in the end but we have a great new young coach that will lead this team in the direction we need to go. I am happy to be back and a part of a good team.

It seems that the wins will be more difficult to get next season. Are you ready for the new challenge?
I think wins are difficult to get any season. I don't think this season will be any harder than any other new season with a new coach and new players. Everything takes time but we will win games and we will compete hard. I know coach Pashutin will demand the best from all of us.

Do you think that your role on the team can be changed by the new coach? For example, what if you will be given more scoring load than before?
I don't know what my role will be on this team but I am happy to be playing for coach Pashutin. I will embrace any role he gives me. I am here to be a part of the team and try to win games.

Tell us please how the vacations go and what are your plans for the rest of summer?
I am enjoying my vacation in the States and spending time with my family.

Usually you practice hard during summer vacations. Did you change your regular routine this time?
I have changed my workout plan a little. I still workout 4, 5 times a week trying to get better and become the best player I can be.

David Blatt let you rest during Eurobasket in Poland, isn't he?
Yes, I am not playing in the Eurobasket this summer.
