The meeting of two best Russian teams of the previous season raises to another quality level: CSKA hosts Nizhny Novgorod during the Euroleague Top 16 Week 5.
“Our next opponent deserves respect not only for the game they play but for their results, too,” CSKA head coach Dimitris Itoudis said. “Their offense runs through the hands of Rochestie who is great pick-n-roll player, creator for himself and his partners and reliable shooter who makes 53% from beyond the arc. He is the kind of player who makes his teammates better. Another very important player is Kinsey – he is athletic, quick, jumpstarts the team’s defense and executes on offensive isolations. Nizhny likes to start big, with Antonov at three – quick spot-up shooter, able post player. Tompkins can play both four and five, depending of what coach demand – to play face to the basket or down the block. Parakhouski is a very good finisher off pick-n-rolls, effective in the paint, he is the team’s point of emphasis under the basket. Khvostov adds experience and spot-up shots off the bench, Baburin is also very important for the rotations and all other reserves help the team with talent and desire. We have to play focused not 39 but all 40 minutes to win the game. We started Top 16 well and now our primary task is to protect our home court. And as usually I ask our fans to come and support the team. We receive tremendous support during our away games recently and we want our opponents to feel that they play on CSKA arena.”
The Army Men remain shorthanded with Sonny Weems (ankle problems) and Victor Khryapa (ankle surgery) sidelined.
